A FEW COMMON QUESTIONS
What is coaching and how does it work?Coaching is a collaborative relationship that uses deep and challenging conversations to help you reach your potential.Practically speaking, I’ll help you create specific, health-related goals, and break down specific tactics that will help you achieve those goals. We’ll make sure the plan aligns with you and your lifestyle, and we’ll troubleshoot that plan all along the way to keep you on track. But most importantly we’ll work on you. We don’t just want you to make progress on your goals, but also help you really understand yourself, what matters to you, and how to live a life in alignment with all that. We work on you at the core, so growth comes more easily – now and in the future!
Is it like counseling or therapy? No. The process is similar, but coaching is specifically a forward-focused process designed to help you gain better understanding of yourself, your goals, and your habits, and to motivate you to take action on that insight. It does not attempt to tackle or treat mental health issues.Life coaches are not licensed to diagnose or treat mental health conditions, nor is coaching a substitute for professional counseling or therapy.
How long is a coaching relationship? How much does it cost?Coaching packages vary in length and cost, depending on where you are in your health journey and how much support you need to reach your goals. If you’re not sure which package is best for you, contact me and I can help you figure it out!
Will you make me follow a specific diet or exercise plan? No! Pre-prepared plans can be helpful when you’re not sure where to start, but ultimately the best framework for improving your health is one tailor-made for you and your lifestyle. Throughout our coaching relationship, we’ll work together to create (and tweak) a program that works for you. One you’re confident in, one you’ll follow through with, and one you’re excited about!
Do I need to count calories? Do I need to take up running?Nope! On any journey, you’ll need to change some habits and grow out of your comfort zone, but you don’t need to incorporate any health habits that don’t work for you or make you miserable. Right at the start we’ll get clear on who you are and what tactics work best for you to reach your goals – and we’ll ditch the ones that don’t!
Can I work with you if I’m not Christian?Of course! I spent most of my life as a comfortable (or so I thought) atheist, so I understand the secular perspective. Now, as a happy Catholic, my purpose is to serve God, and therefore my purpose is to serve you. I will help you however I can, whether you know Jesus or not. That being said, a client is best served by a coach that they can relate to and trust. If this is a triggering topic for you, you may struggle more than you need to throughout the coaching process. I cannot compromise my faith, so if it makes you uncomfortable to work with a devout Christian, then I recommend you seek out another coach.
